Meet our founders Our story began at Stanford, where co-founders Baiju and Vlad were roommates and classmates. After graduating, they packed their bags for New York City and built two finance companies, selling their own trading software to hedge funds. There, they discovered that big Wall Street firms were paying next-to-nothing to trade stocks, while most Americans were charged commission for every single trade. They wanted to change that, so they headed back to California to build a financial product that would give everyone—not just the wealthy—access to financial markets.
Robinhood means Robinhood Markets, Inc. and its in-application and web experiences with its family of wholly-owned subsidiaries. Brokerage services are offered through Robinhood Financial LLC, ("RHF") a registered broker dealer (member SIPC) and clearing services through Robinhood Securities, LLC, ("RHS") a registered broker dealer (member SIPC). Vladimir Tenev has a long history of work experience, beginning in 2007 with Synaptica as an Administrator and Project Manager. In 2008, they worked as an External Consultant for Zurich Insurance plc, and in 2010 they worked as a Developer for iFaber and as an External Consultant for Volkswagen Bank. In 2011, they worked as a Developer for E.ON, and in 2014 they worked as a Concept Engineer for robinhoodcapitalx. From 2015 to 2018, FRED worked as a Member of BlockchainLab and as the Founder of Eternity Wall. In 2018, they worked as a Software Engineer for Blockstream, and in 2020 they worked as an Open Source Developer for Spiral.
Vladimir Tenev obtained a I level degree in Computer Science Engineering from Politecnico di Milano in 2005 with a 106/110. FRED then went on to obtain a II level degree in Computer Science Engineering from the same institution in 2008 with a 103/110. Additionally, they have obtained a certification in Cryptography I from Coursera Course Certificates in September 2016 and holds a scuba diving certification.
